Leonard "Hoot" Greenwood

Leonard "Hoot" Greenwood, 91, of Effingham, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He was born on November 27, 1932, in Flora, IL, to the late Leonard Sr. and Edna (Hall) Greenwood. He married his high school sweetheart, June Bullard, on December 24, 1952, and they were blessed with three daughters, Jan, Lynn, and Tracy.
Leonard was a 1950 graduate of Flora High School and served his country as a corporal in the US Army during the Korean War from 1953-1955. In 1965, he helped Jim McDaniel build the first truck stop in Effingham, the Union 76 Truck Plaza where he served as the general manager for over 30 years and later as the Safety and Transportation Director at the Effingham Truck Sales before retiring in 2011.
Hoot was an esteemed member of the community. A congregant of Willow Street Church of Christ (now Cornerstone Church), he also served as a deacon. Family was everything to him, and he was happiest when surrounded b
